The oldest daughter wears a crown of candles and early in the morning sings an invitation for the light to return. Sweets are offered.

Before the reform of the Gregorian calendar this holiday was celebrated on the day before solstice, the longest night of the year also known as the mother’s night.

ah, the Lucia bride! Another wonderful tradition bringing light & warmth to long, cold northern winter nights.

With each day & post, I feel more deeply drawn to patterns once more. such a joy to stop by and find these treats!! :-)

The Scandinavians changed Lucia day yet left others. I am curious about this, how they chose.
