Valborg / May day
Happy May day
When I was a child we celebrated May day by making small baskets out of paper, twine, twigs, they were rustic not meant to last. A handle was the important part and they had to have enough integrity to hold a bouquet of flowers. We went around the woods and into our mother’s gardens collecting a little of everything. When the baskets were full we hung them on the “grannies” doors, knocked, then ran like hell to hide in the bushes to watch her surprise.
Traveling in Italy when I was twenty we met some college kids and fell in with each other since we were all going in the same direction. It was May first, I wished them happy Mayday and shocked them with my political astuteness as they were communists and this was completely unexpected from an American. Ha! I was more shocked when I discovered how my simple “good morning” had been interpreted.
So let me be clear, when I wish you happy Mayday I am wishing that the electro-magnetic energies of the season ignite the fires within you in the most blessed and creative ways. I am thinking not of politics but communion with the Earth and especially showing respect and affection for our “grannies”

Good Morning!
Happy May Day to you too. When I was in grade school the 1st-3rd graders would wind the May Pole. I loved it! We would practice for a week or two before the “event”. I loved the flowers on top of the poles and the beautiful colored ribbons. Sometimes a pole would even be perfection, altho it was rare for no mistakes to be made during the actual ceremony. Then some ones decided celebrating May Day wasn’t “the thing” to do. Sigh. I still miss it. Would love to wind the pole again some day. Would actually love to live someplace where a May Day celebration would even be considered.
The flowers are beautiful, thank you for sharing.
And by the way, have you seen the white raven lately?

Lynda, what a great story from your childhood. I agree it would be wonderful to live in a place that would consider winding the May pole.
White Raven has not been seen for a while. Her habits are curios. The Raven clan who lives around my property do not leave. When the simps mature they find a location nearby. The valley is filled with this clan. We have seen White Raven in three locations within a 50 mile radius. Each year she moves. I saw her several times last year up on the mesa to the west of me. There are many now who are watching for her.

Please keep us informed of what’s going on with her and when and where she’s seen again. Your property must be quite beautiful. What other little Brothers and Sisters share it with you? If you don’t mind my asking.
