“You are under the protection of Cats”

This is the culprit.

I believe him to be brother to the sweet faced girl who visits

Not many mornings ago I awakened to a most noxious odor. I looked at Ulli-Maki and he at me, our eyes watering as we headed into the living room. We’d been tagged. There is nothing like testosterone laden cat sign to greet you in the morning. Not only had we been tagged, but later when we went out to investigate, we found tags on every side of the house.  “You are under the protection of cats,”  was proclaimed to the four directions.

Near each scented post was a pattern of cat paw prints with the final deep scratches in sand pointing to the mark.  Ulli gave each sign his complete attention, tasting the air, sniffing, inspecting the sandy writing carefully. Instead of being annoyed as I expected, he added his paw prints and scratches to the sand. He went along the walls noting, inspecting, adding his stamps of approval. Then he waltzed back into the house satisfied.

So we live under the protection of cats. The odor dissipates, and the guy above comes by on a regular basis to refresh. Currently, we have a band of loony adolescent chaparral coyotes coming in close, skulking in the bushes. Perhaps we really have been placed under the protection of the big cats. If I have to live with this smell, I at least want to believe in some higher purpose….

That’s simply remarkable. Then again, maybe it isn’t. :)

Conscientious, hmmmm, he’s a good whizzer, we’ll give him that.

And his sister is a gem. As much as she is sweet natured, he is the wild child.

LOL! That’s like being yanked out of a deep sleep by the smell of skunk wafting in the window. :) The joys of rural living all right.

He is a beauty like his sister but a lot more territorial. Men . . .

There are hints of spring is on it’s way here. Daffodils and early tulips are peaking out and will most likely get snowed on this weekend. It’s March, the month of extremes. :-D

Yep, the joys of rural living. And it is exactly like being jolted out of a sleep by a skunk, exactly!

It’s “Big Wind” here today, typical March.
