Before the first buds

fragrance arrives

frost blooms still, among the small stones

but sweetness nudges, burrows

making space for green

Mmmmm, aroma, nature’s silent acoustic, giving us notice of the grand profusion of color and reproduction. It’s good to be alive.

The wisdom of trees forever humbles me. Usually the Apricot is unfurling her pink blossoms and she and the Ash are full of bees by this date.

Frost is still on the rooftops in the morning and the Apricot remains dreaming in the underground, but the barest swellings are beginning to appear along the Ash branchlets. The rhythm is more than light, and temperature that’s for sure.
